A legacy of Innovation

Precision Crafted Performance

We’ve spent over 30 years obsessing over it. Breaking rules and building cars with a conviction others would probably call crazy. Because when it comes to the pursuit of the perfect drive, no idea is too wild, no concept is too radical and nothing is going to stand in our way.

1986 – Start-Up Mentality

Acura was born from passion, hustle and a challenger spirit. Through secret late night meetings, dedicated Honda engineers defined what Acura would become. In less than a year they set up dealerships and rocketed into the public eye with two luxury performance classics, the Integra and the Legend.

World’s Firsts

You start out thinking you can change the world. In our three plus decades we’ve done just that. Jumping into uncharted territory and landing on significant contributions that have now become industry norms in the automotive world.

In-Dash Navigation

We delivered the world’s first in-dash navigation on a production car. Then we kept pushing, also introducing real-time traffic and later, in-dash weather. After debuting on the 1997 RL, in-dash nav has become standard in every model.

Brand-Wide Multi-Valve Engines

Chances are high the car you drive now has a four valve per cylinder engine. The multi-valve technology on the 1986 Integra and Legend set the bar for nearly every engine that followed, industry-wide.

Three-Row Crossover

MDX was the first seven passenger crossover vehicle, luxury or otherwise, with a fold-flat 3rd row in a compact body. We launched this mode in 2000, proving once again our dedication to innovation and designing for the way people drive.

SH-AWD Torque Vectoring

The automotive industry had to familiarize itself with the obscure racing term ‘torque vectoring’ to describe what Super Handling All-Wheel drive did. It wasn’t their fault, it just hadn’t been put into every day vehicles before. This world first appeared on the 2004 RL, and has become an Acura signature throughout the model line. Today we’re on our 4th generation of technology.
